Overcoming Barriers: Accessibility of Film Festivals in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem přístupnosti filmových festivalů v České republice. Cílem práce je pochopit, jak organizátoři a organizátorky filmových festivalů vnímají a zajišťují přístupnost svých akcí a jaké překážky musí překonávat. Teoretická část práce se věnuje konceptu přístupnosti a inkluze, rozdílným modelům postižení, principům inkluzivního a univerzálního designu a přístupnosti v oblasti kultury a filmových festivalů. V praktické části je proveden kvalitativní výzkum prostřednictvím osmi polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s organizátorkami a organizátory vybraných filmových festivalů v ČR, který identifikuje hlavní překážky a výzvy v oblasti přístupnosti. Výsledky práce mohou posloužit jako podklad pro zlepšení přístupnosti a inkluze na kulturních akcích v ČR a přispět k širší diskusi o těchto tématech.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis addresses the topic of accessibility at film festivals in the Czech Republic. The work aims to understand how the organizers of film festivals perceive and ensure the accessibility of their events, as well as the obstacles they must overcome. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the concept of accessibility and inclusion, different models of disability, principles of inclusive and universal design, and accessibility in the field of culture and film festivals. In the practical part, qualitative research is conducted through eight semi-structured interviews with the organizers of selected film festivals in the Czech Republic, identifying the main barriers and challenges in accessibility. The thesis results can serve as a basis for improving accessibility and inclusion at cultural events in the Czech Republic and contribute to a broader discussion on these topics.
