Effect of some polysaccharides on growth of chosen microorganisms

Abstract:

Suspenzní bujónovou metodou byl zkoumán vliv různých koncentrací Betadinu (1 %, 0,75 %, 0,5 %, 0,3 %, 0,25 % a 0,1 %) na vybrané mikroorganismy (Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae a Candida albicans). Cílem této práce bylo snížit množství Betadinu a nahradit ho jinou látkou, která bude mít podobné antimikrobiální vlastnosti. Pro testování byly vybrány vzorky polysacharidů oxidovaná celulóza, kyselá forma karboxymethylcelulózy a karboxymethylcelulóza se zinečnatými solemi. Antimikrobiální účinek těchto polysacharidů byl testován diskovou metodou a u některých polysacharidů i suspenzní bujónovou metodou. Vzorky polysacharidů, které difúzní diskovou metodou vykazovaly částečnou inhibici, byly testovány suspenzní bujónovou metodou ve směsi s 0,25 % Betadinem. Efektivní byla směs kyselé formy karboxymethylcelulózy s 0,25 % Betadinem, kdy došlo k úplné inhibici všech mikroorganismů. Posledním testovaným vzorkem byla karboxymethylcelulóza se zinečnatými solemi. Výsledky testování inhibičních účinků těchto vzorků byly značně variabilní.

Abstract:

Influence of different concentrations of Betadine (1 %, 0,75 %, 0,5 %, 0,3 % 0,25 % and 0,1 %) to chosen microorganisms (Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Candida albicans) was examined by suspension broth method. The main aim consisted in reduction of Betadine amount and its replacement by another substance with similar antimicrobial properties. Samples of polysaccharides oxidized cellulose, acidic form of carboxymethylcellulose and carboxymethylcellulose with zinc were selected for testing. Antimicrobial effect of these polysaccharides has been tested by difusion disc method and suspension broth method. Samples of polysaccharides with partial inhibition of microorganisms determined by diffusion disk metod were tested with 0,25 % Betadine. The most effective mixtures was acidic form of carboxymethylcellulose with 0,25 % Betadine. Carboxymethylcellulose with zinc was last sample and provided significantly variable results.
