Application of portfolio theory in practice

Abstract:

Thesis deals with portfolio theory and usage of programming tools in a field of investment. Author emphasizes a practical utility of editor Visual Basic, which represents a development environment of Excel and demonstrates it on a practical example of portfolio theory. Given task consists of analytical calculations used in portfolio analysis, while most of the calculations are defined by using Visual Basic. The result of the thesis is a created user application, which generates the efficient frontier of portfolio and is also capable of determining an optimal portfolio of the investor based on his own preferences.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa rozoberá teóriou portfólia a využívaním programovacích nástrojov v oblasti investovania. Autor zdôrazňuje praktickú využiteľnosť editoru Visual Basic, ktorý predstavuje vývojové prostredie Excelu a demonštruje to na riešenom príklade z oblasti teórie portfólia. Daná úloha pozostáva z analytických výpočtov využívaných pri analýze investičného portfólia, pričom väčšina z výpočtov je naprogramovaná prostredníctvom Visual Basicu. Výsledkom práce je teda užívateľská aplikácia, ktorá vygeneruje efektívnu množinu portfólií a určí optimálne portfólio investora v závislosti od jeho osobných preferencií.
