Attitudes of People towards Different Ethnic Groups

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývala postojem lidí k etnickým menšinám se zaměřením na postoje policistů a dalších pomáhajících pracovníků. Práci tvořily dvě stěžejní části: teoretická a empirická. Teoretická část byla zaměřena na postoje a jejich utváření a změnu, rasismus, extremismus a další jevy související s tématem. V práci jsou uvedeny největší etnické minority, které se v České republice nachází a jejich stručná charakteristika. Empirická část se zabývá otázkou, jaké jsou postoje respondentů vůči členům jiných etnik. V průzkumu bylo použito techniky strukturovaného rozhovoru a zjištěno, že respondenti z řad policistů, penitenciárních pracovníků a pracovníků výchovného ústavu mají nejhorší postoj k Romům. Výsledky dále ukázaly, že vyšší množství a intenzita osobních kontaktů se členy jiných etnik, pozitivně ovlivňuje postoj respondentů k těmto etnickým skupinám. Práce došla k závěru, že postoje respondentů vůči jiným etnikům nejsou v průměru špatné, nicméně nejsou ani nejlepší.

Abstract:

The Bachelor Thesis dealt with attitudes of people towards different ethnic groups focusing on attitudes of policemen and other helping workers. Thesis is composed of two principal parts: the theoretical and the empirical one. The theoretical part was focused on attitudes, their forming and changing, rasism, extremism and another phenomenona that relate the theme. In the thesis are stated a largest ethnical minorities which can be found in the Czech republic also their brief characteristics. The empirical part deals with the matter of the nature of respondents' attitudes toward members of other ethnic groups. The technique of a stuctured interview was used in the survey and found out that the respondents who are policemen, penitentiary workers and youth correctional facility workers have worst attitudes towards Romanies. The results also showed that a higher frequency and a higher intensity of personal contacts with members of other ethnic groups positively affects the attitudes of the respondents towards these ethic groups. The thesis summaries that the attitudes of the respondents towards different ethnic groups are not bad on average, however they are not best too.
