The relationship between perceived parental conflicts and the factors indicating adaptation problems of children in early adolescence

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda existuje souvislost mezi vnímáním rodičovských konfliktů a jednotlivými faktory indikujícími adaptační problémy dětí na počátku rané adolescence. Výzkumu se účastnilo 117 dětí pátých tříd z pěti brněnských základních škol. Vnímání rodičovských konfliktů bylo zkoumáno pomocí dotazníku CPIC (Škála dětské percepce konfliktu mezi rodiči). Faktory značící adaptační problémy byly zjišťovány pomocí škály PAQ (Škála sebehodnocení dítěte). Výsledky ukázaly, že jednotlivé dimenze dotazníku CPIC (ohrožení, obviňování, triangulace) souvisí s faktory škály PAQ (hostilita/agresivita, emoční labilita, negativní sebepojetí, pesimismus) kromě emoční inhibovanosti, u které nebyl žádný vztah prokázán. V této studii se jednalo především o zkoumání rozdílu mezi chlapci a dívkami. Dokázán byl ale nakonec rozdíl mezi oběma pohlavími jen u subškály hostilita/agresivita. Potvrdila se tedy hypotéza, že v souvislosti s rodičovskými konflikty se chlapci hodnotí jako hostilnější/agresivnější než dívky.

Abstract:

Objective of this thesis is to determine whether there is a correlation between the perception of interparental conflicts and the various factors indicating the adjustment problems of children in the early adolescence. This research included 117 children from five fifth classes of Brno elementary schools. Perception of parental conflicts was examined using a questionnaire CPIC (The Children´s Perception of Interparental Conflict Scale). Factors indicating adaptation problems were detected with the PAQ scale (Personality Assessment Questionnaire). The results showed that the different dimensions of the questionnaire CPIC (threat, accusation, triangulation) are associated with a range of PAQ factors (hostility / aggression, emotional instability, negative self-esteem, pessimism) apart from emotional inhibition, where no relationship was found. This study was concentrated mainly on exploring the difference between boys and girls. However the only proven difference between the sexes was in the subscale hostility / aggression. Hypothesis, that in the context of interparental conflict boys are assessed more hostile/ aggressive than girl, is therefore confirmed.
