What is the relation between the level of education and gender discrimination in the remuneration of men and women?

Abstract:

Ženy jsou ve srovnání s muži mzdově znevýhodňovány, což je v rozporu s dnešním světem motivovaným genderovou rovností. Pro tento jev ale existují vysvětlující faktory, kterými lze mzdovou mezeru žen do určité míry objasnit. Cílem práce je zjistit, jakou roli při odměňování za práci hraje stupeň vzdělání a čistá genderová diskriminace zaměstnaných mužů a žen v České republice. Pro naplnění cíle práce byla vypracována mnohonásobná lineární regrese, jejíž výstup byl dále zpracován použitím Oaxaca-Blinder metody. Zdrojem dat pro vypracování mnohonásobné lineární regrese byla Struktura mezd zaměstnanců roku 2019 v České republice publikována Českým statistickým úřadem. V rámci naplnění cíle práce bylo zjištěno, že odlišnostmi ve vzdělání mezi muži a ženami se dá vysvětlit pouze 0,41 % mzdového rozdílu za rok 2019 v České republice a zbylých 18,49 % připadá čisté genderové diskriminaci. Z tohoto zjištění vyplývá, že vzděláním se mzdová mezera v České republice vysvětlit nedá, a tudíž je způsobena jinými faktory.

Abstract:

Women are disadvantaged in terms of pay compared to men, which is at odds with today's world motivated by gender equality. However, there are explanatory factors for this phenomenon, which can clarify the wage gap for women to a certain extent. The goal of this thesis is to find out what role does the level of education and net gender discrimination of employed men and women in the Czech republic play in remuneration for work. To fulfill the goal of this thesis, there was developed a multiple linear regression, its output was then processed by using an Oaxaca-Blinder method. A source of data for developing the multiple linear regression was Wage structure of employees for 2019 in the Czech republic published by the Czech Statistical Office. As part of the fulfillment of the goal of the thesis, it was found that the differences in education between men and women can explain only 0,41 % of the wage gap for 2019 in the Czech Republic and the remaining 18,49 % is net gender discrimination. This finding concludes that the level of education does not explain the wage gap in the Czech Republic, and is therefore caused by other factors.
