Příklad s kouskem vosku ve druhé z Descartových Meditací o první filosofii bývá obvykle chápán jako ilustrace jedné ze základních myšlenek karteziánského racionalismu, totiž bytostné odlišnosti matematizovaných a ryze senzuálních atributů jsoucen. The example with a piece of wax in the 2nd of Descartes' Meditations on First Philosophy is usually understood as an illustration of one of the basic ideas of Cartesian rationalism, namely the essential difference between mathematizable and purely sensual attributes.
