Linseed oil varnishes and lacquers in the 19th century.

Abstract:

The work deals with the chemical properties and chemical technology of linseed oil lacquers and varnishes in the 18th and 19th centuries. According to Tingry's work, it describes the distribution of lacquers and varnishes based on the origin of the film-forming component, the solvent used and the natural siccative. The experimental part of the work compares the penetration of selected mixtures into samples of spruce and beech wood, and the drying rate of coatings on these materials. The obtained results indicate that although no significant differences were found in varnishes and lacquers according to historical recipes and similar means currently produced, it depends on the type and quality of raw materials used.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá chemii a chemickou technologii laků a fermeží na bázi lněného oleje v 18. a 19. století. Popisuje podle Tingryho rozdělení laků a fermeží podle původu filmotvorné složky, použitého rozpouštědla a přírodního sikativa. V experimentální části práce se uvádí porovnání průniku vybraných směsí do vzorků smrkového a bukového dřeva, a rychlosti zasychání zhotovených povlaků na těchto materiálech. Dosažené výsledky naznačují, že sice nebyly zjištěny podstatné rozdíly ve fermežích a lacích podle historických receptur a obdobných prostředků vyráběných v současnosti, ale je to závislé na druhu a kvalitě použitých surovin.
