Environmental and economic aspects of dealing with cemetery waste in the Czech Republic with a focus on composting and storage

Abstract:

Jedním z odpadových problémů měst a obcí České republiky v současné době je i efektivnost nakládání s odpady ze hřbitovů a zejména otázka, do jaké míry může být ukládání, resp. energetické využití tohoto odpadu nahrazeno jeho separací a následným využitím. Cílem mé diplomové práce je proto analýza nákladů jednotlivých způsobů nakládání se hřbitovním odpadem a otázka nákladové efektivnosti podpory separace bioodpadů ze hřbitovů a jeho materiálové využití. Teoretická část bude založena na vyhodnocení zahraničních zkušeností s nakládáním se hřbitovními odpady v komparaci s podmínkami České republiky. Na základě této komparace budou navrženy alternativní způsoby nakládání se hřbitovními odpady v pilotní svozové oblasti společnosti SITA CZ, a.s. Praktická část analyzuje nákladovost vybraných způsobů nakládání se hřbitovním odpadem se zaměřením na ukládání na skládky, energetické využití a materiálové využití prostřednictvím separovaného sběru a následného kompostování. Analýza nákladové efektivnosti bude základem pro formulaci doporučení na optimální způsob nakládání se hřbitovními odpady svozové oblasti společnosti SITA CZ, a.s. Vedlejším výstupem analýzy bude i vyhodnocení dopadu legislativních změn v poplatkové politice na efektivnost celého systému nakládání. Analýza v teoretické části bude provedena metodou desk-research a hodnocením sekundárních dat. Praktická část bude založena na modelování nákladů vybraných způsobů nakládání se hřbitovními odpady.

Abstract:

One of the greatest problems with the waste in towns and districts in the Czech Republic at the present time is the efficiency with which cemetery waste can be dealt with. In particular, this work examines the extent the waste can be stored, or, rather, how it can be broken down and used as a source of energy. The aim of my diploma thesis is, therefore, to analyse the costs involved in the individual methods of dealing with cemetery waste, as well as the question of the cost effectiveness of separating the different types of bio-waste and the use of this material. The theoretical part will be based on the evaluation of foreign experience with treating cemetery waste in comparison with the conditions extant in the Czech Republic. On the basis of this comparison alternative methods of dealing with cemetery waste will be proposed in a pilot collection scheme operated by SITA CZ, a.s. The practical part will analyse the costs involved in selected methods of treating cemetery waste, with a focus on storage in dumps, its energy and material uses by means of sorting out the material and its resulting composting. Analysis of the cost effectiveness will be the basis for the formulation of recommendation of the optimal means of treating cemetery waste in the area of collection by SITA CZ, a.s. A side effect of this analysis will be the evaluation of the impact of legislative changes in the payment policies on the whole cemetery waste treatment scheme. Analysis of the theoretical part will be carried out by means of the desk-research method along with the evaluation of secondary data. The practical part will be based on the modelling of the costs of the selected methods of treating cemetery waste.
