Potentials and limits of smart technologies in teaching English language at lower secondary schools

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je na základě analýzy odborné literatury a vlastních zkušeností definovat přínosy a limity využívání digitálních technologií při výuce anglického jazyka na 2. Stupni ZŠ. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část, přičemž v teoretické části se zabýváme vymezením základních pojmů, zapojení digitálních technologií do výuky, nástroji do výuky anglického jazyka a poslední kapitola teoretické části obsahuje literární rešerši. Praktická část popisuje metodologii výzkumu a interpretaci výsledků, které byly zjištěny pomocí dotazníkového šetření z pohledu žáků a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů z pohledu učitelů. Jedním z hlavních zjištění práce je, že názory žáků a učitelů se shodují v definování přínosů digitálních technologií, zatímco u limitů se jejich názory rozchází a přistupují k této problematice jiným způsobem.

Abstract:

The aim of this master's thesis is to define the potentials and limits of using smart technologies in teaching English at the lower secondary school on the analysis of professional literature and personal experiences. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, we focus on defining basic concepts, the integration of digital technologies in education, tools for teaching English, and the final chapter of the theoretical part includes a literature review. The practical part describes the research methodology and the interpretation of results obtained through a questionnaire survey from the student's perspective and semi-structured interviews from the teacher's perspective. One of the main findings of the thesis is that the opinions of students and teachers align in defining the potentials of smart technologies, while their opinions diverge when it comes to limits, approaching this issue in different way
