Senses defects and traffic accidents

Abstract:

Úvod: Za důsledek této moderní doby se považuje i množství populace, která si bez řidičského oprávnění neumí život představit. To s sebou nese i množství dopravních nehod. Cíl: Cílem práce bylo zjistit a popsat formou literární rešerše, jak smyslové vady mohou ovlivnit bezpečnost provozu na pozemních komunikacích s nastíněním pilotního výzkumu. Metodika: Pro rešerši bylo dle stanovených kritérií vybráno celkem 11 studií zabývajících se vlivy smyslů na řízení. Hledání studií probíhalo v databázích Scopus, Web of Science a PubMed. Součástí této bakalářské práce byl i pilotní výzkum, který byl proveden formou dotazníkového šetření s praktickými ukázkami v rámci dnů bezpečné jízdy pořádaných pro seniory. Do výzkumu bylo zapojeno celkem 37 osob ve věku od 59let do 89let. Výsledky: Z výsledků pilotního výzkumu můžeme zmínit, že mužů v analyzovaném souboru je postiženo 0,16 % s lehkým handicapem dle dotazníku sluchu a pouze 0,07 % žen. Z výsledků testu kognice - kreslení hodin vyplývá, že jsou tyto horší, než byly výsledky testu sluchu. Pouze 61,5 % žen zvládlo vykonat kreslení hodin úspěšně. Což je horší výsledek, než tomu bylo u mužů, kde si s testem poradilo 70,8 % mužů. V literární rešerši se 10 z 11 autorů shoduje na tom, že smyslová porucha/vada může mít negativní vliv na řízení a tím i riziko dopravní nehody. Závěr: Tato práce potvrdila souvislost lidských smyslů s dopravními nehodami. Jedná se tedy o možný rizikový faktor u starších řidičů, který může být příčinou vážných dopravních nehod. Ať už se jedná o poruchy/vady zraku, sluchu, čichu nebo kognitivních funkcí, každý z těchto smyslů má při řízení své uplatnění. Pokud se jejich množství zvyšuje a člověk je postižen větším množstvím smyslových poruch/vad, roste tím ve větší míře i riziko, že ho dopravní nehoda postihne.

Abstract:

Introduction: As a consequence of these modern times, there is a population that cannot imagine life without a drivinge licence. This brings with it a number of traffic accidents. Objective: The aim of this thesis was to identify and describe through a literature search, how sensory impairments can affect road safety with the outline of a pilot study. Methodology: A total of 11 studies dealing with the effects of the senses on driving were selected for the search according to the set criteria. The search for studies was conducted in the Scopus, Web of science and PubMed databases. This bachelor thesis also included a pilot research, which was conducted in the form of a questionnaire survey with practical demonstrations during safe driving days organized for the elderly. A total of 37 people aged between 59 and 89 years were involved in the research. Results: From the results of the pilot study research, we can mention that 0,16 % of men in the analyzed group are affected with mild disability according to the hearing questionnaire and only 0,07 % of the women. The results of the cognition - clock drawing test show that these are worse than the results of the hearing test. Only 61,5 % of women were able to perform this test successfully. This is a worse result than for men, where 70,8 % of men passed the test. In the literature rewiew, 10 out 11 authors agree that sensory impairment can have a negative impact on driving and thus on the risk of traffic accident. Conclusion: This thesis confirmed the link between human senses and traffic accidents. Thus, it is a possible risk factor for older drivers that may be cause of serious traffic accidents. Whether it is impairments/defects of vision, hearing, smell of cognitive functions, each of these senses has its application in driving. If their number increases and a person is affected by more sensory impairments/defects, the risk of being involved in a road accident increases to a greater extent.
