The Shape of Earth in Earlier Greek Philosophy
Abstract:
This thesis examines the question when and how the idea of the sphericity of the Earth was introduced into the greek philosophy. The thesis focuses on presocratic philosophers, some of whom were acquainted with the spherical shape of the Earth. The thesis further deals with Plato's views on the shape of the Earth and with rational proofs of the spherical shape of the Earth found in the works of Aristotle …more
Abstract:
Táto práca sa zaoberá otázkou ako a kedy vznikla v gréckom prostredí myšlienka, že Zem je guľatá. V práci je hlavná pozornosť venovaná presókratikom, z ktorých niektorí pravdepodobne ako prví na svete vedeli o guľatosti Zeme. Ďalej sa práca venuje názorom Platóna na tvar Zeme a racionálnymi dôkazmi guľatosti Zeme, ktoré vo svojich prácach uviedli Aristotelés a Ptolemaios.
