Anotace:

Hlavným záujmom tejto diplomovej práce s názvom "From Popular Stereotypes to Nuanced Representation: One Step Closer to Authentic Portrayal of Hispanics in the Media," je preskúmať použitie stereotypov v dvoch rôznych audiovizuálnych dielach: "Moderná rodina", populárna situačná komédia často kritizovaná za stereotypné zobrazenie menšín, a film "Coco" od Pixaru, oslavovaný za jeho detailné zobrazenie mexickej kultúry. Cieľom práce je potvrdiť hypotézu, že spôsob, akým sa v kinematografii využívajú isté stereotypy, zohráva kľúčovú úlohu pri formovaní vnímania a myslenia divákov.

Abstract:

The main interest of this master's thesis, titled 'From Popular Stereotypes to Nuanced Representation: One Step Closer to Authentic Portrayal of Hispanics in the Media,' is to examine the use of stereotypes in two different media productions: 'Modern Family,' a popular sitcom often criticized for its stereotypical portrayal of minorities, and Pixar’s 'Coco,' celebrated for its nuanced depiction of Mexican culture. The thesis aims to substantiate the hypothesis that the way cinema employs certain stereotypes plays a pivotal role in shaping audience perception and thought processes.
