This bachelor’s diploma thesis compares the meanings of three verbs (start, begin and commence) that are generally regarded as synonymous. The semantic relation of synonymy is dealt with in both the theoretical and the practical part with special attention paid to the notion of ‘cognitive synonymy‘.
