The role of regional powers in resolving conflicts and peace keeping and security - a case study of the Russian Federation

Abstract:

V této diplomové práci je nahlíženo na Ruskou federaci jako na regionální mocnost v postsovětském prostoru, konkrétně v regionech Zakavkazska a východní Evropy. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit, zda regionální politika Ruské federace tyto regiony spíše destabilizuje nebo naopak pomáhá v udržování míru a bezpečnosti. V teoretické kapitole byly nadefinovány základní pojmy, jež se k dané tématice váží a role, které by měla regionální mocnost ve svém regionu v rámci zajištění bezpečnosti hrát. Ruské federaci byla s ohledem na to připsána obecně role garanta bezpečnosti a na základě toho byly poté její aktivity rozebírány. Dále je v této práci také rozebíráno to, jak Rusko řeší již vypuklé konflikty v těchto oblastech.

Abstract:

In the proposed diploma thesis, the Russian Federation is viewed as a regional power in the post-Soviet area, specifically in the regions of the Caucasus and Eastern Europe. The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out whether the regional policy of the Russian Federation rather destabilizes these regions or, on the contrary, helps to maintain peace and security. The theoretical chapter was focused on the basic concepts related to the introduced topic and the role that the regional power should play in its region in the field of ensuring security. With regard to this, the Russian Federation was generally given the role of security guarantor, and on that basis I analyzed its activities afterwards. Furthermore, this work also discusses how Russia resolves ongoing conflicts in these areas.
