Environmental behavior in the context of time perspective

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá souvislostí environmentálního chování a individuální časové perspektivy. V teoretické části se věnuji vymezení konceptu časové perspektivy dle Zimbarda a Boyda, osobním hodnotám dle Schwartze, environmentálnímu chování a motivacím k němu. Cílem práce bylo za použití kvantitativního výzkumu zjistit, zda souvisí časová perspektiva a environmentální chování a jakou roli v tomto vztahu mají osobní hodnoty. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 131 dospělých ve věku 18 až 42 let. Výzkum poukázal na statisticky signifikantní pozitivní vztah mezi participativními environmentálními akcemi a budoucí negativní časovou perspektivou r=0,214. Také se potvrdila souvislost mezi osobními hodnotami a proenvironmentálním zapojením. Časová perspektiva byla měřena pomocí nástroje Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) a na měření environmentálního chování jsem použila nástroj Environmental action scale (EAS). Osobní hodnoty pak byly zjišťovány prostřednictvím Portrait Value Questionare (PVQ-21).

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the connection between environmental behavior and individual time perspective. In the theoretical part, I focus on defining the concept of time perspective according to Zimbardo and Boyd, personal values according to Schwartz, environmental behavior and key motivations for it. The aim of the thesis was to find out, with help of quantitative research, whether time perspective and environmental behavior are related and what role do personal values have in this relationship. The research group consisted of 131 adults aged 18 to 42. The research pointed to a statistically significant positive relationship between participatory environmental actions and future negative time perspective r=0.214. The association between personal values and pro-environmental involvement was also confirmed. Time perspective was measured using the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) and for environmental behavior it was the Environmental action scale (EAS). Personal values were then assessed through the Portrait Value Questionnaire (PVQ21).
