The socialization of prejudice in the context of family

Abstract:

V této studii testujeme předpoklad, zda síla podobnosti mezi předsudky adolescenta a rodiče, je ovlivněna komunikačními proměnnými: „provokací“ adolescenta zahájit diskuzi s rodiči, četností komunikace a po-dobami komunikace – concept-oriented communication (CO komunikací) a socio-oriented communication (SO komunikací) mezi adolescentem a rodiči. Model testujeme v současné situaci zvýšeného zájmu o tématech imigrantů, a proto očekáváme, že v těchto podmínkách bude četnost „provokace’’ adolescenta zahájit diskuzi o imigrantech s rodiči vyšší a bude korelovat s vyšší četností komunikace mezi rodiči a adolescenty. Dále se domníváme, že vyšší četnost „provokace“ adolescenta zahájit diskuzi s rodiči, vyšší četnost komunikace mezi rodiči a adolescenty a vyšší CO komunikace budou predikovat větší sílu podobnosti mezi předsudky adolescenta a rodiče, naopak vyšší SO komunikace nebude souviset s větší podobností mezi předsudky adolescenta a rodiče. Předsudky namířené vůči imigrantům jsme měřili na výzkumném souboru, který je tvořený celkem 102 respondenty, 51 rodiči (M= 41,63, SD= 4,63) a 51 dětmi (M=13,28, SD= 0,88). Výsledky potvrdily předpoklad, že vyšší četnost „provokace“ adolescentem zahájit diskuzi s rodiči signifi-kantně koreluje s vyšší četností komunikace mezi rodiči a adolescenty. Žádná z předpokládaných komunikačních proměnných není signifikantním prediktorem podobnosti mezi předsudky rodiče a adolescenta. Četnost komunikace, se však ukázala být signifikantní prediktorem podobnosti mezi předsudky rodičů a adolescentů, kteří spolu hodně komunikují a CO komunikace také působila předpokládaným směrem. Domníváme se tedy, že je potřeba vliv komunikace na sílu podobnosti mezi předsudky adolescenta a rodiče dále otestovat na rozsáhlejším výzkumném souboru.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is to prove an assumption that an intensity of similarity between prejudices of an adolescent and a parent is influenced by communication variables that is provocation of an adolescent to start a discussion with parents, frequency of communication and the dimensions of communication between adolescent and parents that are concept-oriented (CO) and socio-oriented (SO). Thanks to the raising interest of the themes regarding the immigrants in current situation we expect that the frequency of provocation of an adolescent to initiate a discussion about immigrants with parents will be higher and it will correlate with a higher frequency of communication between parents and adolescents. We also predict that a higher frequency of provocation of an adolescent to initiate a discussion at home, a higher frequency of discussion between parents and adolescents and a higher CO communication shall indicate a higher intensity of similarity between the prejudices of an adolescent and a parent, however, a higher SO communication will be not related to a higher similarity between prejudices of an adolescent and a parent. We measured prejudices aimed at immigrants on the total number of 102 respondents from which 51 were parents (M= 41,63, SD= 4,63) and 51 children (M=13,28, SD= 0,88). The results proved the assumption that a higher frequency of provocation of an adolescent to initiate a discussion with a parent significantly correlates with a higher frequency of a communication between parents and adolescents. None of the presumed communication variables is a significant prediction of similarity between the prejudices of a parent and an adolescent. Nevertheless, a significant prediction of a similarity between the prejudices of parents and adolescents occurred to be a frequency of communication, if they communicate frequently, as well as CO communication. We suppose that there is a need for a large scale analysis about how the impact of communication influences an intensity of communication between the prejudices of an adolescent and a parent.
