Psychological and physiological overexcitabilities in high intelligent population.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na osoby s vysoce nadprůměrným inteligenčním kvocientem v kontextu teorie Hyper brain – hyper body. Klade si za cíl ověřit, zda jsou nadprůměrně inteligentní (hyper brain), konkrétně v tomto případě členové Mensy ČR, psychicky a fyziologicky převzrušiví (hyper body). Tato převzrušivost by se projevila vyšším výskytem vybraných onemocnění, poruch a syndromů. Teoretická část se nejprve věnuje definování a vysvětlení konstruktu inteligence prostřednictvím známých vědeckých teorií, popisuje její měření, ale také do jaké míry jde o zděděnou, případně získanou dispozici. Dále jsou uvedeny nejnovější poznatky o vysoce inteligentních od struktury jejich mozku až po psychomotorickou převzrušivost či úspěšnost v životě. Kapitola o psychoneuroimunologii vysvětluje blíže teorii Hyper brain – hyper body, dává některá onemocnění do souvislosti s inteligencí, přičemž těmto onemocněním a poruchám je věnována poslední teoretická kapitola. Empirickou část tvoří analýza 10 hypotéz a dvou výzkumných otázek, které obecně porovnávají prevalenci v české populaci s prevalencí vysoce inteligentních. Prevalence je vypočtena na základě sesbíraných dotazníků od 157 členů Mensy ČR. Výsledky ukazují, že je signifikantně vyšší výskyt generalizované úzkostné poruchy, pervazivních vývojových poruch a autoimunitních onemocnění mezi nadprůměrně inteligentními v porovnání s běžnou populací. Výsledky tak nejsou z velké míry konzistentní s výsledky původní americké studie.

Abstract:

This master's thesis focuses on people with a very superior intelligence quotient in the context of the theory Hyper brain – hyper body. It aims to verify whether they (hyper brain), in this case members of Mensa CR, possess psychological and physiological overexcitabilities (hyper body). This overexcitabilities would be manifested in a higher prevalence of selected diseases, disorders, and syndromes. The theoretical part deals with the definition and various explanations of the construct of intelligence, describes its measurement and to what extent it is an inherited or acquired disposition, followed by the latest knowledge about the gifted, from the structure of their brains to psychomotor overexcitabilities or success in life. The chapter on psychoneuroimmunology expounds the theory of Hyper brain – hyper body, puts some diseases in connection with intelligence, while the last theoretical chapter is devoted to these diseases and disorders. The empirical part consists of an analysis of 10 hypotheses and two research questions that in general compare the prevalence in the Czech population with the prevalence of highly intelligent ones. Prevalence is based on questionnaires collected from 157 members of Mensa ČR. The results show that there is a significantly higher prevalence of generalized anxiety disorder, pervasive developmental disorders, and autoimmune diseases among the highly intelligent compared to the general population. And so, the results are inconsistent with the results of the original US study.
