Cardiopulmonary resuscitation of the newborn and infant from the mother's point of view

Abstract:

Úvod: Tématem bakalářské práce je kardiopulmonální resuscitace novorozence a kojence a povědomí matek o této problematice. Kardiopulmonální resuscitace je soubor opatření, která mají za cíl obnovit základní vitální funkce - dýchání, srdeční činnost nebo obojí (Bydžovský 2008). Cílem práce: Zjistit informovanost matek o resuscitaci novorozenců a kojenců. Metodika práce: Pro práci byla zvolena metodika kvantitativního průzkumu, kterou považuji za nejvhodnější. Pro sběr dat byla využita metoda nestandardizovaného dotazníku vlastní konstrukce. Dotazníky byly určeny pro ženy, které mají nejméně jedno dítě od 0 do 1 roku věku. Výběr respondentek nebyl nijak omezen věkem ani vzděláním. Realizace probíhala na oddělení Šestinedělí, Masarykovy nemocnice v Ústí nad Labem, a to od 20. října 2020 do 10. února 2021. Dotazníky byly zcela anonymní, složeny z 21 otázek, které byly uzavřené, s volbou jedné odpovědi. Výjimkou byla otázka č. 10, kde mohly ženy zvolit více možností. Ve dvou otázkách matky vyplňovaly svůj věk a počet dětí číselnou veličinou. Získaná data byla vyhodnocena popisnou statistikou a dále interpretována v tabulkách a grafech. Výsledky: Výsledky přináší povědomí o informovanosti matek v oblasti kardiopulmonální resuscitace novorozence a kojence. Z analyzovaných dat vyplývá, že nadpoloviční většina žen (60 %) nezná správný postup přivolání Zdravotnické záchranné služby. 69 % respondentek má zájem získat znalosti o první pomoci novorozenci a kojenci. Podrobněji popisuji a analyzuji výsledky v diskusi. Závěr: Z výsledků empiricky nashromážděných dat vyplynulo, že kardiopulmonální resuscitace novorozence a kojence je oblast, ve které má mnoho matek nedostatečné znalosti. Bylo zjištěno, že zájem o edukaci v dané oblasti je velký, a proto vyvstává otázka, z jakého důvodu jsou znalosti žen nízké. Možným důvodem je nedostatečné množství vzdělávacích programů či nízká míra edukace ze strany zdravotnického personálu a s tím spojené nedostatečné snahy ženy v těchto znalostech podporovat právě formou edukace.

Abstract:

Introduction: The main topic of this bachelor's thesis is cardiopulmonary resuscitation in newborn and infant and the knowledge of it among mothers. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a set of measures aimed at restoring basic vital functions - breathing, heart rate or both (Bydžovský 2008). Aim: To find out the mother´s knowledge of newborn and infant CPR. Methodology: The methodology of quantitative research was chosen for the work, which I consider the most suitable. The method of a non-standardized questionnaire of own design was used for data collection. The questionnaires were designed for a specific group of women, ie for women who have at least one child aged 0 to 1 year. The selection of respondents was not limited in any way by age or education. The implementation took place at the maternity ward at the Masarykova Hospital in Usti nad Labem from October 20, 2020 to February 10, 2021. The questionnaires were completely anonymous, consisting of 21 questions that were closed, with a choice of one answer. The exception was question 10, where women could choose more options. In two questions, mothers filled their age and the number of children with a number. The obtained data were evaluated by descriptive statistics and further interpreted in tables and graphs. Results: The results bring information about the knowledge of newborn and infant CPR among mothers. The analyzed data show that more than half of women (60%) do not know the correct procedure for calling the Emergency Medical Service. 69% of respondents are interested in gaining knowledge of first aid for newborns and infants. Detailed description and analysis can be found in the discussion part of this thesis. Conclusion: Based on the results it is safe to say that a great amount of mothers have insufficient knowledge of newborn and infant CPR. The results showed a great interest in education in said topic. Now the question is why the mother´s knowledge of newborn and infant CPR is so insufficient. A possible reason might be the lack of educational programs or a low amount of education from healthcare professionals.
