Karagiozis: Alexander the Great Vs the Cursed Snake

Abstract:

Tématem předkládané práce je řecké stínové divadlo Karagiozis a rozbor jedné z jeho nejznámějších her „Alexandr Veliký a prokletý had“. Jako obraz společnosti z konce 19. a začátku 20. století Karagiozis zachycuje nejen rámec své doby, ale také charaktery příznačné pro společensko-kulturní přechod v Řecku tohoto období. Cílem je čtenáře seznámit s tradicí řeckého stínového divadla , s jeho historickým vývojem a postavením v rámci lidové kultury v Řecku. Druhá část práce je věnována rozboru zmíněné hry.Práce se v jednotlivých oddílech zabývá původem námětu této hry, dramatickým ztvárněním a jevem zařazení minulosti do přítomnosti představení.

Abstract:

The main theme of this thesis is the Greek shadow theater Karagiozis and an analysis of the one of its most famous plays "Alexander the Great Vs the Cursed Snake". The main aim is to take the reader up with the brief history of the shadow theater and its tradition in Greece, and its place in Greek folk art. Greece is among the very few European countries that adopted shadow theatre, abandoning, however, its religious aspect and adding the provincial Greek culture's own uniqueness to it. Thus, shadow theatre slowly developed into an art form of its own kind, acquiring a Greek interpretation which also included music, acting and social satire incorporated with traditional folklore. The next part of the thesis deals with the analysis of a theme of the mentioned play and the phenomenon of „historical present“.
