Uranium migration in the sediments of the Haduvka creek

Abstract:

V dnových sedimentech říčky Hadůvky byly laboratorní gamaspektrometrií a XRF- analýzou studovány koncentrace uranu. Říčku lze podle koncentrací uranu rozdělit na severní úsek s vysokými koncentracemi a jižní úsek s koncentracemi podstatně nižšími. Koncentracemi uranu vymezená hranice mezi úseky je identická s významnou litologickou změnou skalního podloží řeky a s ní související morfologickou změnou samotného toku. Severní úsek je plochý s jemnozrnnými sedimenty a uran.se zde akumuluje. Jižní úsek je erozně hlouběji zaříznut a vyznačuje se vyšší energií. Z tohoto důvodu se zde pravděpodobně netvoří uranové akumulace v sedimenetech. Vysoké koncentrace v severním úseku jsou zapříčiněny antropogenně v souvislosti s těžbou, protože úsek protéká areálem bývalého uranového dolu. Přítoky Hadůvky ovlivňují akumulace uranu jen částečně, jelikož jejich koncentrace se podobají koncentracím hlavního toku. Litologická změna v údolí Hadůvky ovlivňuje i chování dalších prvků, především draslíku a thoria. V severním úseku s pararulovým podložím jsou koncentrace draslíku a thoria nižší, ovšem za zlomovou strukturou koncentrace vzrůstají vzhledem k migmatitovému a durbachitovému podloží. Podle vztahů thoria k zirkonu, na který se thorium pravděpodobně váže, lze předpokládat jeho migraci mechanickým transportem.

Abstract:

The concetrations of uranium in river bed sediments of Hadůvka Creek were studied by means of gamaspectrometry and XRF-analysis. Acording to concetrations of uranium the creek itself can be devided into northern part with high concetrations of uranium and southern part with significnatly lower concetrations of uranium. The border between northern and southern part, which is defined by uranium concetrations, is identical with lithogical change of Hadůvka Creek connected to morphological change of the stream itself. Northern part is flat with fine-grained sediments and the uranium is accumulating there. The southern part cuts erosionally deeper and is characterized by higher energy. That is the likely cause why significant accumulations of uranium are not created in sediments. High concetrations of uranium in the northern part are caused by uranium mining, because in this part Hadůvka Creek is flowing through the area of closed uranium mine. Hadůvka’s tributary streams are only partially influencing the uranium accumulations, because it’s concetrations are similar to those at the main stream. Lithological changes in the valley of Hadůvka are influencing behaviour of other elements, above all potassium and thorium. In the northern part with paragneissed bedrock are concetrations of thorium and potassium, but behind the fault structure concetrations are growing in relation to migmatite and durbachite bedrock. According to relationships between thorium and zircon to which thorium is likely bonded, it is possible to assume thorium’s migration via physical transport.
