Abstract:

Tato studie zkoumala dopad přímých zahraničních investic (PZI) na nigerijskou ekonomiku. Cíle studie byly řešeny pomocí deskriptivní metody a techniky odhadu autoregresního rozloženého zpoždění (ARDL). Ve studii byly použity čtvrtletní časové řady údajů Světové banky za období od 1. čtvrtletí 2000 do 4. čtvrtletí 2020. Zjištění odhalila, že přímé zahraniční investice v Nigérii vytlačují hospodářský růst v krátkodobém i dlouhodobém horizontu. Jinými slovy, výsledky naznačují, že PZI mají negativní dopad na hospodářský růst. Nabídka práce podporuje hospodářský růst a kapitál nemá významný vliv na hospodářský růst v krátkém i dlouhém období. Výsledky nicméně ukazují, že směnný kurz má pozitivní a významný vliv na hospodářský růst v dlouhém období a úroková míra má pozitivní a významný vliv na hospodářský růst v krátkém i dlouhém období. Studie doporučuje, aby byly posíleny instituce, které zajistí, že příliv přímých zahraničních investic podpoří hospodářský růst v zemi. Stejně tak by nigerijská vláda měla směřovat PZI do odvětví s komparativními náklady na výrobu.

Abstract:

This study investigated the impact of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on Nigeria's economy. The study's objectives were addressed using the descriptive method and Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) estimation technique. The study used quarterly time-series data from the World Bank covering the periods of 2000Q1 to 2020Q4. The findings revealed that FDI crowds out economic growth in Nigeria's short run and long run. In other words, the results suggest that FDI have a negative impact on economic growth. Labour supply supports economic growth, and capital does not exert a significant effect on economic growth in both the short run and long run. Nevertheless, the results show that the exchange rate exerts a positive and significant impact on economic growth in the long run and the interest rate exerts a positive and significant effect on economic growth in both the short run and long run. The study recommends that institutions be strengthened to ensure that FDI inflow supports economic growth in the country. Similarly, the Nigerian government should channel FDI towards the sectors with comparative costs in production.
