Teacher and influencer? How teachers present their profession and their own identity on the social network TikTok

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce zkoumá, jak učitelé prezentují svou osobní a profesní identitu na sociální síti TikTok. Výzkum této práce se zaměřuje na učitele influencery, kteří na této platformě prezentují své postoje, názory a osobní zkušenosti týkající se učitelské profese a jeho role ve vzdělávání. Cílem je tedy zmapovat, jak tito učitelé formují a prezentují svou profesní identitu na TikToku a jak tato prezentace ovlivňuje vnímání učitelské profese veřejností. Obsahová analýza odhaluje, jak učitelé aktivně utvářejí obraz „dobrého učitele“, přičemž výzkum kombinuje kvantitativní a kvalitativní metody. V rámci výzkumu byly také identifikovány charakteristiky těchto učitelů influencerů a jejich vliv na TikToku. Závěrečná diskuse prezentuje výsledky výzkumu, porovnává je se současným pojetím učitelské role a navrhuje podněty pro další výzkum. Práce přináší nový pohled na propojení sociálních médií a vzdělávání, zejména v kontextu TikToku a konstrukce profesní identity učitelů.

Abstract:

This master's thesis explores how Czech teachers present their personal and professional identity on the social media TikTok. The research focuses on teacher influencers who share their attitudes, opinions, and personal experiences related to the teaching profession and its role in education. The aim is to map how these teachers shape and present their professional identity on TikTok and how this presentation influences the public perception of the Teacher’s profession. Content analysis reveals how teachers actively shape the image of a "good teacher," combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. The study also identifies characteristics of these teacher influencers and their impact on TikTok. The final discussion presents the research results, compares them with the current conception of the teaching role and suggests avenues for further research. The thesis offers a new perspective on the connection between social media and education, especially in the context of TikTok and the construction of teachers' professional identity.
