Preparation and characterization of heterostructured nanoparticles inspired by artificial photosynthesis

Abstract:

Předložená bakalářská práce je věnována přípravě a charakterizaci heterostrukturovaných nanočástic inspirovaných umělou fotosyntézou. Teoretická část pojednává princip a aplikace heterogenní fotokatalýzy, jsou shrnuty vybrané fotokatalyzátory a běžné charakterizační metody. Pozornost je pak věnována konceptu heterostrukturovaných nanočástic, kdy lze vhodnou kombinací polovodičů v intimním kontaktu řešit souběžně prostorovou separaci nábojů a posuv odezvy na dopadající záření z UV oblasti do viditelné části spektra. Praktická část práce se věnuje přípravě heterostrukturovaných nanočástic na bázi grafitického nitridu uhlíku a oxidu wolframového, jejich charakterizacím a testováním fotokatalytické aktivity. Ta byla monitorována prostřednictvím sledování rychlosti odbarvování roztoku sodné soli Xylenolové Oranži pomocí UV-Vis. Jako zdroj osvitu byly využity LED s různým maximem vlnových délek. Mechanismus transferu fotoexcitovaných nábojů mezi oběma komponenty heterostrukturovaných nanočástic byl zkoumán pomocí vybraných lapačů volných radikálů.

Abstract:

The presented bachelor thesis is devoted to the preparation and characterization of heterostructured nanoparticles inspired by artificial photosynthesis. The theoretical part deals with the principle and application of heterogeneous photocatalysis, selected photocatalysts and common characterization methods are summarized. Attention is then paid to the concept of heterostructured nanoparticles, where a suitable combination of semiconductors in intimate contact can solve simultaneously the spatial separation of charges and the shift of the response to incident radiation from the UV region to the visible part of the spectrum. The practical part of the work is devoted to the preparation of heterostructured nanoparticles based on graphitic carbon nitride and tungsten oxide, their characterization and testing of photocatalytic activity. This was monitored by measurement of the discoloration rate of the Xylenol orange sodium salt solution using UV-Vis. LEDs with different maximum wavelengths were used as a source of illumination. The mechanism of photoexcited charge transfer between the two components of heterostructured nanoparticles was investigated using selected free radical scavengers.
