Relation between creativity and stress management among students preparing for pedagogical profession

Abstract:

V současnosti existuje nespočet studií zabývajících se problematikou stresu a jeho zvládáním a podobně v posledních desetiletích narůstá i zájem o výzkum kreativity. Nicméně dosud nebyla zaznamenána výzkumná studie, která by se zabývala vztahem těchto dvou fenoménů a navíc konkrétně v populaci studentů, kteří se připravují na výkon pedagogické profese. Vymezíme-li si však požadavky, jež by měl budoucí pedagog splňovat, dovednost umět pracovat se stresem a úspěšně jej zvládnout, stejně jako kreativní přístup k výuce a celkově kreativní osobnost, figurují na předních pozicích. Jádrem této práce je tedy problematika vztahu mezi kreativitou a zvládáním stresu u studentů připravujících se na pedagogickou profesi. Vzhledem k originalitě tématu a absenci podkladů pro možné vyvození hypotéz, byla práce realizována jako explorační studie. Cílem bylo zjistit, zdali existuje vztah mezi kreativitou, měřenou Kaufmanovou škálou doménově specifické kreativity (K-DOCS) a strategiemi zvládání stresu, zjišťovanými dotazníkem zvládání zátěže SVF 78. A taktéž, zdali existují rozdíly v dosažených skórech v obou metodách v závislosti na univerzitě, studijním programu, pohlaví či věku, na škálách K-DOCS a v subtestech SVF 78. Výzkumný soubor tvoří 723 respondentů, z nichž je 610 žen a 113 mužů. Z výsledků získaných na základě kvantitativního výzkumu vyplývá, že mezi studenty připravujícími se na pedagogickou profesi existují dílčí statisticky významné souvislosti mezi úrovní kreativity v K-DOCS a strategiemi zvládání stresu SVF 78. Stejně tak byly nalezeny parciální rozdíly při srovnávání skórů K‑DOCS a SVF 78 mezi skupinami v závislosti na univerzitě, studijním programu, vývojové etapě i pohlaví. Na základě těchto zjištění by se dalo konstatovat, že u studentů připravujících se na pedagogickou profesi existuje mezi kreativitou a zvládáním stresu statisticky významný vztah v dílčích oblastech.

Abstract:

At present, there are countless studies dealing with the issue of stress and its management and similarly, there has been a growing interest in creativity research in recent decades. However, no research study that would deal with the relationship between these two phenomena and, moreover, specifically in the population of students preparing for the pedagogical profession, has been carried out yet. Nonetheless, if we define the requirements that a future educator should meet, such as the ability to work with stress and successfully manage it, as well as a creative approach to teaching and an overall creative personality, hold the leading positions. The core of the present thesis is the issue of the relationship between creativity and stress management focusing on the students preparing for the teaching profession. Due to the originality of the topic and the absence of data for the possible deduction of hypotheses, the present work was carried out as an exploratory study. The aim was to determine whether there is a relationship between creativity, measured by the Kaufman Domains of Creativity Scale (K-DOCS) and stress management, measured by the SVF 78 workload management questionnaire. And last but not the least, whether there are differences between the researched groups, depending on university, study programme, gender or age on the K-DOCS scales and in the SVF 78 subtests. The research group consists of 723 respondents, of which 610 are women and 113 men. The results obtained from quantitative research shows that among students preparing for the pedagogical profession there are partial statistically significant links between the level of creativity in K-DOCS and stress management strategies SVF 78. When comparing K‑DOCS and SVF 78 scores between groups depending on university, study programme, developmental stage and gender, partial statistically significant differences were also found. Based on these findings, it could be stated that there is a statistically significant relationship between creativity and stress management in partial areas among students preparing for the pedagogical profession.
