Stalin sám sebe označoval za jediného pokračovatele učení leninismu a marxismu. Za jeho vlády vznikl stalinismus. Jednalo se v podstatě o byrokraticko-stranický terorismus, který se začal rozvíjet po Leninově smrti a vrcholil začátkem třicátých let. Stalin considered himself the only successor of the marxism-leninism. His government turned this doctrine into stalinism. Stalinism was bureaucratic-partisan terrorism which was developed after Lenins death and culminated at the beginning of the 1930s.
