Drawn on the Stone. The Origins of Lithography in Moravia and in Bohemia

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá počátky litografického umění v českých zemích a vývoj litografického umění v první polovině 19. století. Představuje první pražské i brněnské litografické dílny zakládané od 20. let 19. století, jejich produkce i historie. O zřízení litografické dílny mohly požádat čestné a bezúhonné osoby, které ručily za vlastní produkci dílny a její předložení příslušným cenzurním úřadům. Litografie byla podřízena policejní cenzuře, proto mohly být litografické dílny zakládány pouze v městech se sídlem policejního ředitelství, což splňovala v počátcích pouze Praha a Brno, kde byly také založeny první litografické dílny. Zatímco v Praze byly počátky litografie spojeny jak s uměleckými kruhy, akademickým prostředím, tak s tiskařským světem, v Brně se na rozšíření litografie podíleli především ambiciózní tiskaři, kteří se tímto způsobem snažili rozšířit svoji produkci. V rámci práce budou představeny první pražské a brněnské litografické dílny, jejich historický vývoj i jejich produkce.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of the origins of lithographic art in the Czech lands and presents the first lithography workshops founded since the 1820s in Prague and Brno. The establishment of a lithography workshop could have been requested by honest and impeccable persons who were responsible for the production of the workshop and its submission to the relevant censorship offices. Lithography was subjected to the police censorship, so lithography workshops could only be established in cities with the police headquarters. At the beginning of the 19th century, this condition was only met by Prague and Brno. While in Prague the beginnings of lithography were connected with artistic circles, academia and the world of printing, in Brno the ambitious printers participated in the lithography expansion, while at the same time trying to expand their own production. The main aim of this work is the presentation of the first lithography workshops in Prague and Brno, their historical development, and their production.
