Crowdfunding as a source of funding for book publishing

Abstract:

Crowdfunding je druh financování spojující značné množství drobných přispěvatelů za účelem vzniku (komerčního) projektu. Tato práce vznikla za účelem poskytnutí bližšího vhledu do problematiky crowdfundingu v oblasti knih, zejména z důvodu její absence. Cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnocení výhod jednotlivých variant získávání financí na publikaci knihy se zaměřením na crowdfunding. Praktická část byla zpracována pomocí kvalitativního výzkumu. Vedlejším cílem je identifikovat podobnosti v motivaci autorů při výběru platformy a způsobu vydání knihy. Zaměřuje se také na nalezení protikladných kritérií – výhod a nedostatků, které byly vnímány ze strany autorů, a tím umožnit volbu nejpřívětivější platformy. Vyhodnocením praktické části bylo zjištěno, že zásadním determinantem při výběru platformy je doporučení známého či blízké osoby. Každá z platforem vyhovuje jinému typu autora dle jeho preferencí, pro ty začínající je nejvýhodnější volbou online nakladatelská služba Pointa, která nejtěžší věci v celém procesu vydání obstarává za autora.

Abstract:

Crowdfunding is a type of financing that brings together a large number of small contributors to create a (commercial) project. This thesis was written to provide further insight into the issue of crowdfunding in the field of books, particularly in its absence. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the advantages of different options for raising funds for book publication with a focus on crowdfunding. The practical part has been developed through qualitative research. A secondary objective is to identify similarities in the authors' motivations for choosing the platform and method of book publication. It also aims to find the contrasting criteria - advantages and disadvantages - that were perceived by the authors, thus enabling the choice of the most favourable platform. By evaluating the practical part, it was found that the recommendation of an acquaintance or a close person is a major determinant in the choice of platform. Each of the platforms suits a different type of author according to their preferences; for those starting out, the online publishing service Pointa is the most preferred choice, as it takes care of the most difficult things in the whole publishing process for the author.
