Anotácia:

Dnes, v polovině druhé dekády jedenadvacátého století, žijí lidé v globalizovaném světě. Jedním ze znaků takového světa je nutnost komunikovat s lidmi různých národností. Nejběžnějším prostředkem takové komunikace se především díky koloniální politice Velké Británie stal anglický jazyk. Za těchto podmínek není překvapivé, že se množí snahy vyvinout takové metody výuky anglického jazyka, které by byly efektivnější než metody používané v minulosti po celá staletí. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá způsoby výuky a procvičování anglické gramatiky, jednotlivé principy jsou analyzovány především z pohledu efektivnosti na českých středních školách. Smysluplnost tohoto tématu a využitelnost výsledků výzkumu zaměřujícího se na dané téma jsou zcela zřejmé. Česká média opakovaně informují o neustále se zhoršujících výsledcích českých studentů při testech z anglického jazyka na všech stupních vzdělávání, což vede ke snižujícím se schopnostem české populace efektivně se dorozumět pomocí anglického jazyka v zaměstnání i v běžných situacích všedního dne. Studie provedená v rámci této práce má přispět k objasnění tohoto trendu nebo být alespoň základem pro další výzkum. Výsledky jsou tedy diskutovány z tohoto pohledy a cílem studie je zodpovědět dvě otázky: 1. Které metody a techniky výuky a procvičování anglické gramatiky jsou nejčastěji využívány učiteli českých středních škol? 2. Proč učitelé anglického jazyka působící na českých středních školách dávají přednost některým metodám a technikám před jinými? Prostředkem k získání odpovědí byl elektronický dotazník, jenž byl prostřednictvím elektronické pošty zaslán učitelům anglického jazyka, kteří momentálně působí na středních školách v České republice.

Abstract:

In the middle of the second decade of the twenty-first century, the people of this planet find themselves living in a globalized world. One of the features of a globalized world is the need to communicate with speakers of other mother tongues. Due to the British expansive colonial policy of just a few centuries ago, the English language has become the most dominant and widely used language in the world. In recent years English has been the worldwide number one language in business, politics, sports, show-business and many other areas of human endeavor. Under these circumstances it comes as no surprise that numerous efforts to develop a method of teaching the English language to its non-native learners, which would be more effective than those used for centuries before, have been and are being made by many. This master’s diploma thesis deals with the methodology of teaching English language structures, i.e. with the different methods and techniques of presenting and practicing individual aspects of English grammar to non-native learners of the English language, with focus on high school learners in the Czech Republic. The meaningfulness of the topic and its research and the usefulness of the results are self-evident. The Czech media repeatedly inform of the ever-deteriorating results that Czech students achieve in English tests of all kinds and at all stages of education, which then reflects in the inability of the Czech population to communicate meaningfully with foreign citizens, be it at work or in every-day life. The research aspires to provide the explanation of this regretful state or at least to be the basis for further research, and the research results are discussed from this perspective. In the light of the situation concerning teaching English in Czech high schools, this study addresses the following questions: 1. Which methods and techniques of presenting and practicing grammatical structures of the English language are most commonly used by teachers in Czech high schools? 2. Why do Czech high school English teachers prefer some methods and techniques over other methods and techniques? To gain the answers to these questions, English language teachers who are currently working in high schools and vocational schools in the Czech Republic were addressed via email and asked to fill out an electronic questionnaire.
