Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the differences in the employment of the science-fiction genre between mainstream and independent cinema in the years 1977 - 84. These differences will be examined on the basis of the two independent and the two mainstream films of this period, which Sobchack calls the popular renaissance of the SF film (226).
