Economic cohesion and regional differentiation of the EU

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je vyhodnotit územní diferenciaci Evropské unie a vybraných členských zemí. V této souvislosti sleduji rozdíly v hlavních socio-ekonomických indikátorech (v HDP na obyvatele a v míře zaměstnanosti) napříč Evropskou unií a podrobněji v rámci České republiky a Slovenska. Dále se soustředím na vysvětlení vývoje a aktuálního nastavení regionální politiky Evropské unie na úrovni Unie a ČR. Práce je strukturovaná do tří hlavních kapitol. První kapitola je zaměřena na posouzení ekonomické, sociální a regionální diferenciace členských zemí a regionů EU. Druhá kapitola se věnuje analýze regionální struktury a diferenciace České republiky a Slovenska. Závěrečná kapitola zahrnuje vývoj a současnou podobu regionální a strukturální politiky Evropské unie.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the territorial differentiation of the European Union and selected member countries. In this context I observe the differences in major socio-economic indicators (in GDP per capita and employment rates) across the European Union and in more detail in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Furthermore, I focus on explaining the development and the current setting of EU regional policy at EU level and the CR. The thesis is structured into three main chapters. The first chapter focuses on assessing the economic, social and regional differentiation of the Member States and EU regions. The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of regional structure and differentiation of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The final chapter covers the development and current form of regional and structural policy of the European Union.
