Physics textbook analysis from gender perspective

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá analýzou učebnic fyziky z hlediska genderu. Teoretická část je souhrnem informací vztahujícím se k tématu genderu ve společnosti, škole a učebnicích. Praktická část se skládá z kvalitativní a kvantitativní obsahové analýzy. Byly vybrány čtyři učebnice fyziky z nakladatelství Prometheus (Bednařík a kol 1994, Lepil a kol 1996, Halliday a kol 2000, Svoboda a kol 2013). Objektem kvalitativní analýzy byly kontrolní úlohy, vyskytující se na konci každé kapitoly. Celkem bylo analyzováno 1121 úloh, obsahujících 173 mužů (92 %) a 15 žen (8 %). Všechny genderové prvky učebnic byly označeny specifickým kódem a kategorizovány. Celkem bylo vytvořeno 6 kategorií a 12 kódů. Výsledky byly interpretovány za vzniku typologie jednotlivých učebnic z hlediska genderu. Během analýzy vznikly 4 typologie vyjadřující míru genderové ne/korektnosti učebnic. Vzhledem k celkově malému množství žen v učebnicích nevyjadřují vzniklé typologie ideální teoretické hodnoty. Pokud by byly vytvořeny kategorie dle očekávatelných teoretických hodnot, všechny zkoumané učebnice by spadaly do kategorie genderově silně nekorektních učebnic. Objektem kvantitativní analýzy byla frekvence zastoupení žen a mužů v autorském kolektivu, předmluvě, ostatním textu a obrazovém materiálu.

Abstract:

Study is focused on gender analysis of physics textbook. Theoretical part contain information about gender in socienty, school and textbooks. Practical part consicts of qualitative and quantitative content analyses. Four physics textbook from Prometheus publisher heve been selected (Bednařík a kol 1994, Lepil a kol 1996, Halliday a kol 2000, Svoboda a kol 2013). The control exercise in the end of each chapter was the main object of this study. There were 1211 control exercises analysed which content of 173 men (92 %) and 15 women (8 %). All gender elements have been identified by specific code. There were 6 categories with 12 codes which gave a rise of 4 gender typologies. Because of low lever of women in textbook this typologies didn´t show well ideal theoretical values. In ideal theoretical case all our values are highly gender incorrect. The main objects of quantitative analysis were representation of women and men in team of authors, introduction and image material.
