Market Segment of LGBT tourists in the City of Prague

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá segmentem trhu LGBT turistů v Praze. V první teoretické části jsou vysvětleny základní pojmy cestovního ruchu, které se v práci často objevují. Velká pozornost je věnována vysvětlení pojmů spojených se segmentem LGBT, neboť část z těchto pojmů je převzatá z angličtiny, a navíc je náročné jim správně porozumět, některé nemají české ekvivalenty. Dále je v této kapitole představena Praha jako velmi atraktivní destinace, a na závěr první kapitoly jsou vysvětleny principy segmentace trhu. Po teoretické části následuje část analytická, kde je představeno 10 nejvíce gay friendly světových destinací a skrze jejich charakteristiku jsou přiblíženy základní atributy tohoto specifického turismu. Následuje jádro diplomové práce, analýza služeb zaměřených na LGBT segment v Praze. V této části jsou přestaveny podnikatelské subjekty, které cílí na LGBT segment. V další podkapitole analytické časti jsou představeny nejvýznamnější eventy zaměřené na LGBT segment pořádané během roku v Praze. V poslední částí analytické kapitoly jsou shrnuta zjištěná data do přehledných grafů, které mají zesílit intenzitu a jasnost sdělení, která plynou ze zjištěných dat. V následující návrhové časti představuji několik konstruktivních návrhů, které by mohly vést k zlepšení informovanosti o Praze jako gay friendly destinaci, a zároveň způsoby, kterými by bylo možné dosáhnout větších příjmů, skrze navýšení příjezdového turismu tohoto segmentu do Prahy, ale i celé České republiky. Na závěr návrhové časti představuji svá doporučení aktualizací v gay průvodci Prague Gay Map, které se promítne do praxe. Zmíněný průvodce vyjde v nákladu 25 000 kusů a bude k dostání zdarma na každém LGBT místě v Praze. V závěru práce vyhodnocuji zvolené hypotézy a uzavírám celé téma. LGBT segment zaujímá v Praze celkem významné postavení, a pokud by se dosáhlo správné propagace a dostatečné spolupráce zainteresovaných podnikatelských subjektů, pak by Praha měla potenciál stát se centrem turismu pro LGBT segment ve střední a východní Evropě.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with market segment of LGBT tourists in Prague. Firstly, the theoretical part explains the essential terms regarding tourism that will be frequently used in this thesis. A great emphasis is devoted to explanation of terms related to LGBT segment as some of them are taken from English. They are difficult to be understood correctly and they do not have Czech equivalent. Furthermore, this section introduces Prague as a very attractive destination for tourists and then it concludes with the principles of market segmentation. After the theoretical part follows the analytical part, starting with the chapter where the 10 most gay-friendly destinations in the world are presented, and through their characteristics, the basic attributes of this specific tourism are presented. Next, the core of the thesis is outlined, namely, the analysis of services focused on the LGBT segment in Prague. In this section, business entities that target the LGBT segment are introduced. Next subchapter of the analytical part introduces the most significant events focused on the LGBT segment held in Prague during the year. Last section of the analytical part summarizes gathered data into distinct graphs that serve to strengthen and communicate the results in a clear way. In the following section, I present several constructive proposals that could improve the awareness of Prague as a gay friendly destination and ways to make more income by increasing the arrival of this segment to Prague as well as to the entire Czech Republic. At the end of the proposal section, I introduce my recommendation for updates to the gay guide “Prague Gay Map”, which will be put into practice. The aforementioned guide will be released in 25,000 copies and will be available for free at any LGBT site in Prague. At the end of the thesis I evaluate selected hypotheses and close the whole topic. The LGBT segment occupies a significant position in Prague, and if proper promotion and sufficient cooperation of the interested entrepreneurs were achieved, then Prague would have the potential to become the center of tourism for the LGBT segment in Central and Eastern Europe.
