Abstract:

Vzájemné drbání (allogrooming) je u primátů relativně často zkoumanou interakcí, která je ve vědeckém světě pitvána z různých hledisek. Jedním z nich je také vliv sociálního postavení, které představuje jeden z významných faktorů. Ukazuje se, že míra přijatého drbání podobně jako výběr drbaných míst může odrážet postavení jedince v hierarchii. I přestože se tomuto tématu věnovalo několik studií, dosud nebyla vytvořena práce, která by se tímto vlivem blíže zabývala u kočkodanů. Kromě vlivu sociálního postavení na drbání se má práce zabývá také lateralitou. V tomto směru se zaměřuje na preferenci rukou jedinců při zahajování drbání, čemuž také dosud nebyla u kočkodanů věnována pozornost. Pro účely této práce tak byla u zástupců dvou druhů kočkodanů - kočkodana Dianina (Cercopithecus diana) a kočkodana husarského (Erythrocebus patas) - zaznamenávána délka i frekvence drbání, drbaná místa, délka i výskyt přestávek a také volba zahajující ruky, a to po dobu dvou sezón. Dále byly pozorovány všechny přátelské a nepřátelské interakce mezi jedinci, ze kterých mohlo být následně vyhodnoceno sociální postavení jedinců. Data byla následně analyzována v programu SAS verze 9. 4, přičemž byl vzorek omezen pouze na dospělé samice a juvenilní jedince. Výsledky mé práce potvrdily, že sociální postavení u těchto druhů výrazně ovlivňuje délku drbání, kdy níže postavení drbali výrazně déle výše postavené jedince, než tomu bylo v opačném případě. Naopak, sociální postavení nemělo vliv na frekvenci drbání, která byla mezi jedinci založena především na reciprocitě. Délka drbání tak zřejmě představuje komoditu, která může být směňována za jiné benefity (přístup k mláděti, přístup k potravě, tolerance), zatímco frekvence drbání vede ke směňování této komodity pouze za drbání. Dále se ukázalo, že výběr míst je ovlivněn druhově, nikterak sociálním postavením, což může být zapříčiněno odlišnou hierarchií obou druhů. Zatímco u kočkodana Dianina panuje stabilní lineární hierarchie, která nevyvolává tenzi mezi jedinci, u kočkodana husarského může být napětí ve skupině produktem nestabilní hierarchie, přičemž může vést k tendenci vyhýbat se místům, u nichž hrozí oční kontakt. Ukázalo se, že kočkodani Dianini upřednostňují především pravou ruku pro zahajování drbání, zatímco husarští kočkodani vykazují "ambilateralitu" (není jasná preference), čímž mé výsledky nepodporují teorii o preferenci ruky spjaté s postojem těla (MacNeilage 1991). Situaci může vysvětlovat teorie "o složitosti úkonu", dle které může být drbání vnímáno jako jednodušší úkon pro terestrického kočkodana husarského, zatímco u pralesního kočkodana Dianina může představovat složitější úkon, který vyžaduje specializaci rukou.

Abstract:

Allogrooming is a relatively frequently investigated interaction in primates that is explored from various perspectives in the scientific world. One of the most important factors which affects allogrooming seems to be the role of a rank. It turns out that an amount of grooming as well as grooming sites may reflect individual's position in a hierarchy. Although a number of studies have dealt with this issue across several species of primates, none of them has investigated this effect in guenons (tribe Cercopithecini) yet. My thesis also focuses on the preference of individuals' hand when starting to groom, which is another issue that has not yet been studied in guenons. Two species of a tribe Cercopithecini - diana monkey (Cercopithecus diana) and patas monkey (Erythrocebus patas) - were observed for two seasons. For the purposes of this work a duration of grooming as well as a frequency of grooming, grooming sites, break time and a number of breaks and also a hand that was chosen to begin grooming with were recorded. Furthermore, all affiliative and agonistic interactions between individuals were observed from which the rank of individuals was subsequently evaluated. SAS 9.4 software was used to analyze all collected data with a sample that was limited to adult females and juvenile individuals. The results of my study confirmed that the role of a rank strongly influences the duration of grooming.The lower-ranking individuals were grooming the high-ranking individuals for much longer than the high-ranking individuals which were grooming the low-ranking ones. On the contrary, the rank did not affect the frequency of grooming which was primarily based on individuals reciprocity. The duration of grooming thus seems to be a commodity that can be exchanged for various benefits (access to youngs, access to food, tolerance) while the frequency of grooming leads to the exchange of this commodity for grooming only. Furthermore, results of this work show that the grooming sites are not rank-related but species-related which can be caused by a different hierarchy in both of the species. Diana monkeys have a stable linear hierarchy that does not cause tension between individuals whereas patas monkeys show some kind of tension which may be a product of an unstable hierarchy. This unstable hierarchy may also lead to avoidance of such grooming sites where there is a likely threat of having an eye contact with the groomee. According to my findings, Diana monkeys prefer to begin grooming with their right hand while patas monkeys have no clear preference ("ambilaterality"). Therefore my results do not support a theory of hand preference associated with body posture (MacNeilage 1991). In fact, the situation can be explained by theory of "task complexity" (Fagot and Vauclair 1991) in which grooming might be perceived as a simple task for patas monkey (terrestic species) whereas for Diana monkeys (arboreal species) it may pose more complicated task and thus it requires hand specialization.
