Development of lexical-semantic level of the speech for Children with Down Syndrom through iPad application

Abstract:

The thesis on "Development of a lexical-semantic speech level in children with Down syndrome by means of an iPad application" is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. The main objective of the thesis is creating of a diagnostic and stimulatory material in a shape of a vocabulary picture test and an iPad application Bitsboard. The next aim was the diagnosis and a followed development of the lexical-semantic speech level through our created application Bitsboard, as well as an elaboration of five Down syndrome clients case studies. The thesis is divided to four chapters. The first chapter is focused on the characteristics, ethiology, symptomatology of Down syndrome children. The second chapter deals with the characteristics , development of Down syndrome children´s speech, and also opportunities of the lexical-semantic level development in these children. The third chapter characterizises an iPad and its exploitation options in special education settings. The fourth chapter presents the research project, which aiming is to analyze vocabulary level of Down syndrome informants by means of the picture test exploitation and followed-up creating of the iPad application and its use and verification in practice.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca na tému „Rozvíjanie lexikálno-sémantickej roviny reči u detí s Downovým syndrómom prostredníctvom iPad aplikácie“ je rozdelená na teoretickú a empirickú časť. Hlavným cieľom diplomovej práce je vytvorenie diagnostického a stimulačného materiálu vo forme obrázkového testu slovnej zásoby a iPad aplikácie Bitsboard. Ďalším cieľom bola diagnostika a následný rozvoj lexikálno-sémantickej roviny reči prostredníctvom nami vytvorenej aplikácie Bitsboard, ako aj vypracovanie kazuistík piatich klientov s Downovým syndróm Diplomová práca je rozdelená na štyri kapitoly. Prvá kapitola je zameraná na charakteristiku, etiológiu a symptomatológiu Downovho syndrómu. Druhá kapitola sa zaoberá charakteristikou, vývojom reči detí s Downovým syndrómom, ako aj možnosťami rozvoja lexikálno-sémantickej roviny týchto detí. Tretia kapitola charakterizuje iPad a možnosti jeho využitia v prostredí špeciálneho školstva. Štvtá kapitola prezentuje výskumný projekt, ktorého cieľom je analyzovať úroveň slovnej zásoby informantov s Downovým syndrómom prostredníctvom využitia obrázkového testu a následná tvorba aplikácie iPad a jej uplatnenie a overenie v praxi.
