Safety management of music festivals and concerts: Trends and case studies

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá bezpečností na hudebních festivalech a koncertech. Popisuje bezpečnostní rizika a hrozby, které jsou součástí hudebních festivalů a koncertů, jakož i trendy, které se v tomto odvětví uplatňují. Práce detailně poukazuje na tři incidenty, které se udály od roku 2000. Jsou jimi smrt 9 lidí na festivalu Roskilde v roce 2000, smrtelný incident na Pohoda Festivalu, kde zahynuly dvě osoby v roce 2009 a nakonec Manchester 2017 – Koncert Ariany Grande a teroristický útok, kde zemřelo 22 lidí. Práce hodnotí a zkoumá reakce organizátorů na vzniklé rizikové situace a popisuje další možnosti potenciálního zabránění takovým situacím. V práci jsou konkrétně popsány dané akce a z případových studií specialistů na dané téma je uvažováno nad správností a bezpečností rozhodnutí organizátorů. Cílem práce je popsat vývoj a trendy v řízení bezpečnosti na hudebních festivalech a koncertech, a pomoci tak i organizátorům akcí na Slovensku a v České republice při řešení otázek bezpečnostního managementu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with safety/security at music festivals and concerts. It describes safety risks and threats which are a part of music festivals and concerts, as well as it describes trends which are improving in this segment. This work shows the details of three incidents that happened since 2000. They are: the death of 9 people at Roskilde Festival in 2000, a death incident at Pohoda Festival, where two persons died in 2009 and finally a terrorist attack at a concert of Ariana Grande in Manchester in 2017, where 22 people died. This work evaluates and examines reactions of the organisers on critical situations and talks about different options how to prevent these kind of situations. In this work we will be describing specifically these particular events and case studies from experts on particular subject will help us to think about the rightness and the safety of the decisions made by organisers of these events. This work aims to define the evolution and trends of safety management at music festivals and concerts, and thus also help the event promoters in Slovakia and Czech Republic in answering the questions about safety management.
