Contemporary Architecture in the Historic Environment. Litomyšl 1990–2019

Abstract:

Současná architektura v Litomyšli je mnohými autory udávána jako vzor, co se týče vstupu nových zásahů do historické výstavby. Otázky vhodnosti této kombinace v rámci historických částí měst jsou ovšem daleko kontroverznější, než se může na první pohled zdát. V předkládané práci se proto věnuji tzv. sporu památkářů s architekty, který v Litomyšli vznikl v 90. letech 20. století v souvislosti s architektonickou soutěží na dnešní OD Kubík. Důraz je však kladen zejména na rozbor soudobých zásahů do historické architektury na zámeckém návrší a v jeho okolí. Ten poté doplňují rozhovory s autory těchto realizací, se starostou Litomyšle a také anketa s místními obyvateli. Čtenářům jsou následně představeny metodiky památkové péče pro začleňování novostaveb do historického prostředí a rovněž přiblíženy postoje několika českých památkářů, které se týkají dané problematiky. V samém závěru práce se poté snažím odpovědět na otázku, zda je možné hodnotit vhodnost současné architektury v historickém prostředí pomocí standardizované metody škálování. Využívám k tomu tři různé klasifikace, které vytvořili Christopher Alexander, Nikos A. Salingaros a kolektiv autorů Kuča-Kučová-Kibic. Práce se snaží o komplexní obsáhnutí dané problematiky a nastínění možných řešení neustále vznikajících kolizí mezi zástupci památkové péče a praktikujícími architekty.

Abstract:

Contemporary architecture in Litomyšl uses to be pointed out by many authors as an example of a fruitful way of combining historical architecture with the nowaday´s interventions. However, many people find this connection problematical and controversal. In the presented work, I therefore concern with the so-called conflict between conservationists and architects, which arose in Litomyšl in the 1990s in context of an architectural competition for today's building of OD Kubík. The text is mainly focused on the analysis of contemporary architectural interventions located on the castle hill and in its surroundings. Those analyses are enriched by interviews with the authors of these realizations, with the mayor of Litomyšl and also with a local residents opinion survey. Readers are then introduced to the Czech National heritage institute methodologies for the integration of new buildings into the historic environment. Opinions of several Czech preservationist on this issues are also mentioned in this chapter. At the very end of this diploma thesis, I attepted to ascertain if it is possible to assess the suitability of contemporary architecture in a historic environment using a standardized method of scaling. For this purpose I use three different classifications: firt created by Christopher Alexander, second one by Nikos A. Salingaros and the last one by the team of authors Kuča-Kučová-Kibic. In this work I strived to give a detailed description of this complex issue and outline the possible solutions of this repetitively emerging conflicts between representatives of the National heritage institute and architects.
