Řada druhů ektotermů si udržuje svou tělesnou teplotu v užším rozpětí než teploty prostředí pomocí termoregulačního chování. Přesnost a účinnost behaviorální termoregulace je ovlivněna nejenom teplotním prostředím, ale také interakcemi mezi jedinci stejných nebo různých druhů v rámci ekologického společenstva.
