Aproximation of functions-the least squares method

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnujeme aproximaci funkcí pomocí metody nejmenších čtverců. Úvodem se seznámíme s obecným principem nejmenších čtverců, poté s normálními rovnicemi a dále navážeme aproximací metodou nejmenších čtverců pomocí polynomu x^j pro j = 0, 1, .... Ovšem hlavním tématem této práce bude aproximace pomocí ortogonálních polynomů, které odvodíme. Seznámíme se obecně s Gramovými polynomy a jejich použití si poté ukážeme na příkladě. Celou bakalářskou práci uzavřeme diskuzí nad chybou při aproximaci metodou nejmenších čtverců.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is dealing with aproximacy of functions using the method of the smallest squares. At the beginning we will familiarize ourselves with the general principle of the smallest squares and equations and then we will continue with aproximacy by the method of the smallest squares using the polynom $x^j$ where $j = 0, 1, ...$. However, the main thesis is aproximacy by using the orthogonal polynoms. We will learn how to use and derive them. We will get familiar with Gram’s polynoms in general and their application on example. At the end of the thesis we will discuss the mistake in the process of application of the method of the smallest squares.
