Journey through the inconspicuous traces. The development of civic amenities in the Lesná housing estate

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce bude soustředěna na zkoumání sídlištní občanské vybavenosti Lesná, včetně uměleckých realizací ve veřejném prostoru, se zvláštním zřetelem na prostory a objekty sdíleného charakteru. Výzkum je situován na konkrétní brněnské sídliště Lesná v samosprávné městské části Brno-sever, které má jakožto unikátní architektonický celek nebývalou kulturně-historickou hodnotu. Badatelé a historici se doposud zabývali především architekturou a uměleckou výzdobou, ne-zpracovaným tématem stále zůstávají objekty praktického využití ve veřejném prostoru a další sdílené prostory, které představovaly nedílnou součást zdejší občanské infrastruktury. Praktickým výstupem práce bude zapojení široké veřejnosti. Provedeme řadu kroků, které povedou k uskutečnění experimentu, jehož výsledkem bude zvuková socha. Projekt „Probuď objekt – kolektivní událost na sídlišti Lesná“ bude realizován ve spolupráci s rezidenty, starostou a v neposlední řadě za pomocí kolegů, studentů zvukového designu. Rozhodnutí zapojit do projektu studenty bylo učiněno hned z několika důvodů. Jednak je to zviditelnění uměleckých objektů a dalších prvků občanské vybavenosti ve veřejném prostoru a jednak se snažím dokázat, že umělecké intervence studentů se nemusí týkat jen komunitních událostí, ale že mohou působit také ve veřejné sféře a angažovat se i v těchto palčivých otázkách sdíleného prostranství.

Abstract:

The thesis will focus on examining the civic amenities of the Lesná housing estate, including artistic installations in public spaces, with a special emphasis on shared spaces and objects. The research is situated in the specific Lesná housing estate in the self-governing municipal district of Brno-north, which holds exceptional cultural and historical value as a unique architectural complex. Up to this date, researchers and historians have primarily addressed architecture and artistic decoration, practical objects in public spaces and other shared areas, integral to the local civic infrastruc-ture, have remained an understudied topic. The practical output of the thesis will in-volve engaging the wider public. Several steps will be taken to conduct an experiment resulting in a sound sculpture. The project, "Awaken the Object – a Collective Event in the Lesná Housing Estate," will be implemented in collaboration with residents, the mayor, and last but not least, with the assistance of colleagues and students of sound design. The decision to involve students in the project was made for several reasons. The one is highlighting artistic objects and other elements of civic amenities in public spaces the other is I am aiming to demonstrate that artistic interventions by students can extend beyond community events and have an impact in the public sphere, ad-dressing pressing issues in shared spaces.
