The comparison of fertility in the Czech Republic and other countries of EU

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce je zmapovat vývoj plodnosti v České republice a porovnat s vývojem v dalších zemích Evropské unie od druhé poloviny 20. století. Plodnost je analyzována pomocí základních ukazatelů, ale i pokročilejších metod, které jsou náročnější na datovou základnu. Na příkladu jednotlivých zemí je ukázáno, že se plodnost výrazně proměnila a zároveň se stala i tématem pro evropské politiky. Při současné úrovni plodnosti není možné, aby byl zachován současný stav populace pomocí přirozené reprodukce. Kromě změny počtu obyvatelstva ale dochází i ke změně struktury obyvatelstva. Pro všechny státy je společný vývoj v tom, že se zvyšuje průměrný věk matky při porodu a zároveň došlo k výraznému nárůstu podílu nemanželsky narozených dětí. V některých státech se rodí více než polovina dětí mimo manželství. Dle prognózy Eurostatu, by se měla úroveň plodnosti v dlouhodobém horizontu zvyšovat, ale nárůst je předpokládán jen nepatrný.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is to describe the development of fertility in the Czech Republic and compare it with the development in other countries of the European Union since the second half of the 20th century. The fertility is analyzed using basic indicators as well as more complex methods which are more demanding to a database. The example of each country shows that fertility has changed considerably and has also become a theme for European politicians. At the current level of fertility, it is not possible to maintain the current population just through natural reproduction. In addition to changing the population size, there is also a change in population structure. For all countries, there is a common development in the fact that the average of the maternal age at birth is increasing, while the proportion of non-marital births have increased significantly. In some states, more than half of children are born out of marriage. According to the Eurostat prediction, fertility levels should increase in the long term, but only a slight increase is expected.
