Heritage of the textile industry of the Moravian-Silesian region

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá přístupem vedení měst a vlastníků k regeneraci průmyslového dědictví v podobě dochovaných textilních areálů, které se během 90. let 20. století a počátku 21. století proměnily v brownfieldy. Práce je zaměřená na vývoj přístupů a procesy vedoucí k regeneraci průmyslových brownfieldů v bývalých regionálních textilních centrech Moravskoslezského kraje a středoevropského textilního centra Lodže. V úvodu teoretické části práce jsou definovány hodnoty a možnosti ochrany průmyslového dědictví a také cíle památkové péče. Dále je teoretická část práce zaměřena na historické příčiny vzniku brownfieldů, jejich typologii, možnosti regenerace a jejího financování a také samotný rozvojový potenciál brownfieldů. Empirická část práce je postupně věnována třem zkoumaným městům: Frýdku-Místku, Krnovu a Lodži. U každého města jsou popsány historické příčiny postupné přeměny textilních areálů do podoby brownfieldů a v rámci informací ze semistrukturovaných rozhovorů s aktéry měst a desk research výzkumu je u jednotlivých areálů popsán jejich současný stav a přístup veřejného a soukromého sektoru k jejich znovuvyužití. U jednotlivých měst jsou také popsány procesy, které vedly k regeneraci konkrétních brownfieldů.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the approach of city management and owners to the regeneration of industrial heritage in the form of preserved textile areas that were turned into brownfields during the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century. The work is focused on the development of the approach and processes leading to the regeneration of industrial brownfields in the former regional textile centers of the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Central European textile center of Lodz. In the introduction to the theoretical part of the thesis, the values and possibilities of industrial heritage protection are defined, as well as the goals of heritage conservation. Furthermore, the theoretical part is focused on the historical causes of the creation of brownfields, their typology, the possibilities of regeneration and its financing, as well as the development potential of brownfields. The empirical part of the work is gradually devoted to the three investigated cities: Frýdek-Místek, Krnov and Lodz. For each city, the historical causes of the gradual transformation of textile areas into brownfields are described, and within the framework of information from semi-structured interviews with city actors and research desks, their current state and the approach of the public and private sectors to their reuse are described for individual areas. The processes that led to the regeneration of specific brownfields are also described for individual cities.
