Bioavailability and mobility of toxic metals in soils and sediments

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá biodostupností a mobilitou toxických kovů v půdách a sedimentech. Teoretická část práce sleduje jejich zdroje, výskyt a osud v prostředí. Věnuje se popisu jednokrokových a sekvenčních extrakcí vzorků půd a sedimentů a také technikám pasivního vzorkování. Poslední kapitola popisuje instrumentální metody pro stanovení kovů ve vzorcích, a to techniky atomové absorpční spektrometrie a techniky využívající indukčně vázané plazma. Experimentální část práce je věnována jednokrokovým extrakcím pro uvolnění obsahů kovů vázaných na určitou část matrice sedimentů, a to kovy slabě adsorbované na povrchu sedimentu, kovy vázané ve strukturách uhličitanů a kovy vázané na oxidy/hydroxidy železa a manganu. Vzorky sedimentů byly extrahovány činidly NH4NO3, CH3COOH a NH2OH∙HCl a byl stanoven obsah Co, Ni, Zn, Cd a Pb hmotnostní spektrometrií s indukčně vázaným plazmatem.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the bioavailability and mobility of toxic metals in the soil and sediments. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on their sources, occurence and fate in the environment. It describes single-step and sequential extractions of soil and sediment samples and also the techniques of passive sampling. The last chapter describes instrumental methods of determining the content of metals in the samples, particularly the atomic absorption spectrometry and the techniques using inductively coupled plasma. The experimental part of the thesis is dedicated to single-step extractions for releasing the content of metals bound to a certain part of the sediment matrix, namely the weakly adsorbed metals on the sediment’s surface, metals bound in carbonate structures and metals bound to oxides/hydroxides of iron and manganese. The sediment samples were extracted using the NH4NO3, CH3COOH and NH2OH∙HCl agents and the content of Co, Ni, Zn, Cd and Pb was determined using mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma.
