Ethical purchasing behaviour of Czech consumers: attitude – behaviour gap

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje etickým spotřebitelům. Zkoumá detailně jejich kupní chování, postoje vůči etičnosti a udržitelnému životnímu prostředí, a možný rozpor mezi jejich postoji a skutečným kupním chováním. Hlavním cílem bylo zjistit, co právě tento rozpor způsobuje a dále určit motivátory a bariéry etického nákupu v České republice a na Slovensku z pohledu etického spotřebitele. Výzkum proběhl pomocí polo-strukturovaných rozhovorů na šestnácti respondentech. Doslovní přepisy rozhovorů byly následně kódovány v softwaru MAXQDA a vyhodnocené v rámci čtyř vzniknutých témat: udržitelné životní prostředí, inspirace a ovlivnění, český a slovenský trh a neetická spotřeba. Na základě spojitostí mezi teorií a výsledky mých rozhovorů bylo určeno pět okruhů, které popisují propojení názorů respondentů s jejich kupním chováním. Těmito tématy jsou: očekávání pozitivní budoucnosti a změna k lepšímu, symbióza člověka s přírodou a dopad na krajinu, zdraví, morální principy a svědomí, kariérní život a pobyt v zahraničí.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis analyses behaviour of ethical consumers. It examines particularly their purchasing behaviour, attitudes towards ethics and sustainable environment, and the possible gap between their attitudes and actual purchasing behaviour. The main goal is to define, what causes a gap between the attitude and the behaviour of an ethical consumer, and to identify the motivators and barriers for ethical purchasing in the Czech Republic and Slovakia from the perspective of an ethical consumer. The research was realized by using semi-structured interviews with sixteen respondents. The transcripts of the interviews were thereafter coded in the MAXQDA software and interpreted in four topics: sustainable environment, inspiration and influence, the Czech and Slovak markets and unethical consumption. Based on the connection between the theory and the results of my interviews, five areas were identified, which characterize the connection between the respondents' opinions and their purchasing behaviour. These topics are expectations of a positive future and change towards better times, the symbiosis of man with nature and the impact on the landscape, health, moral principles and conscience, career life and living abroad.
