The importance of wavefront analysis in cataract surgery

Abstract:

Cílem práce je sledování aberací vyššího řádu lidského oka v souvislosti se vznikem katarakty a s její léčbou. Bylo prokázáno, že katarakta způsobuje nárůst aberací vyššího řádu. Implantací asférické umělé nitrooční čočky lze sférickou aberaci oka snížit k hodnotám obvyklým u mladé zdravé populace. Zjistili jsme, že typ umělé nitrooční čočky neovlivňuje aberace 3. řádu. Dokázali jsme, že během prvních šesti měsíců po operaci dochází k malé, avšak statisticky významné změně aberací vyššího řádu, zejména ve smyslu jejich snížení. Potvrdili jsme také, že rohovkový řez indukuje nové aberace vyššího řádu na rohovce.

Abstract:

The aim of the study was a comprehensive description of higher-order aberrations of the human eye concerning cataract development and treatment. It was proven cataract causes an increase in higher-order aberrations. Implantation of an aspherical intraocular lens may decrease the whole eye spherical aberration to the values usual in young healthy individuals. We found out 3rd order aberrations are not influenced by the type of intraocular lens. During the first six months postoperatively a small but statistically significant decrease in higher-order aberration was noted. It was also proven that new corneal higher-order aberrations are induced by a corneal incision.
