Management of symphonic wind orchestras in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem symfonické dechové hudby a její současnou podobou v ČR. Teoretická část se zabývá vymezením pojmu symfonická dechová hudba a hudebních žánrů a těles spadajících pod oblast dechové hudby. Dále obsahuje stručnou historii dechové hudby na českém území, její současný stav, seznámení s nejvýznamnějšími osobnostmi, asociacemi, festivaly a soutěžemi tohoto hudebního žánru. Následně seznamuje s tradicí dechové hudby v jiných zemích. Poslední kapitola teoretické části je věnována obecnému managementu symfonických orchestrů, podle něhož je posuzován management v oblasti symfonických dechových orchestrů. V praktické části byla analyzována činnost a management dvou českých symfonických dechových orchestrů, Ústřední hudby Armády České republiky a Harmonie 1872 Kolín. U těchto dvou zástupců došlo k prozkoumání struktury managementu, koncertní činnosti, marketingu a financování a jejich následnému srovnání a odlišení. V závěru práce jsou zodpovězeny výzkumné otázky a navržena určitá opatření, která by mohla usnadnit fungování těchto i jiných orchestrů ve zkoumané hudební oblasti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of symphonic wind music and its current form in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part deals with the definition of the term symphonic wind music and musical genres and ensembles falling under the field of wind music. It also contains a brief history of wind music in the Czech territory, its current state, acquaintance with the most important personalities, associations, festivals and competitions of this musical genre. Subsequently, it introduces the tradition of wind music in other countries. The last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the general management of symphonic orchestras, according to which management in the field of symphonic wind orchestras is assessed. The practical part analysed the activities and management of two Czech symphonic wind orchestras, the Central Music of the Czech Army and Harmonie 1872 Kolín. The management structure, concert activities, marketing and financing of these two representatives were examined and subsequently compared and differentiated. At the end of the thesis, all research questions are answered and certain measures are proposed that could facilitate the functioning of these and other orchestras in the field of music.
