Die grosse Heimkehr / The Great Homecoming: On political dimension of "home" and change of identity in the novel by Anna Kim

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the concept of homeland and the change of identity of the characters in the novel "Die grosse Heimkehr" by contemporary Austrian writer of Korean origin Anna Kim. Research questions of the work are whether the novel can be considered as a postcolonial literature, what function does the definition of homeland have in shaping the identity of Koreans in the 1950s-1960s of 20th century and why the main character Yunho Kang is described as a person without homeland. The theoretical part is devoted to intercultural concepts, forms of identity and also the concept of homeland. In the practical part is the history of the creation of "Die grosse Heimkehr" and its structure are discussed, the text is interpreted on the basis of the question of the homeland and the issues in the context of the Korean history of 20th century. In conclusion, it comes to analysis of the characters, which determines the connection between the concept of homeland and the formation of identity influenced by political events on example of specific individuals.

Přeložená diplomová práce se zabývá pojmem vlasti a změnou identity u postav románu "Die grosse Heimkehr" současné rakouské spisovatelky korejského původu Anny Kim. Výzkumné otázky práce se zabývají tím, zda je možné román považovat za postkoloniální literaturu, jakou funkci má pojem vlasti při formování identity Korejců v 50-60. letech 20. století a proč se hlavní postava Yunho Kang označuje jako člověk bez vlasti. Teoretická část je věnovaná interkulturním pojmům, formám identity a konceptu vlasti. V praktické části je na začátku probírána historie vzniku díla "Die grosse Heimkehr" a jeho struktura, dále je text interpretován na základě otázky vlasti a identifikační problematiky v kontextu korejské historie 20. století. V závěru přichází analýza postav, pomocí které je stanovena souvislost mezi pojmem vlasti a formováním identity pod vlivem politických události na příkladě konkrétních individuí.
