In this thesis we study systems of orthogonal functions and their application. In the first chapter we present a motivational example. The second one is devoted to trigonometric Fourier series, to their properties and some examples. In the third chapter we define the basic terms and properties of Fourier series in Hilbert spaces. V této diplomové práci se věnujeme systémům ortogonálních funkcií a jejich použití. V první kapitole uvádíme motivační příklad. Druhá je věnována goniometrickým Fourierovým řadám, jejich vlastnostem a příkladům. Ve třetí kapitole definujeme základní pojmy a vlastnosti Fourierových řad v Hilbertových prostorech.
