Personality characteristics of volunteers helping during the covid-19 pandemic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na osobnostní charakteristiky dobrovolníků, kteří pomáhali během pandemie covid-19. Cílem bakalářské práce je prozkoumat osobnostní vlastnosti a konstrukt psychické odolnosti hardiness. Teoretická část se věnuje představení a propojení zkoumaných témat. Uvádí do problematiky osobnostních rysů s důrazem na model Big Five. Dále se teoretická část věnuje dobrovolnictví v kontextu pandemie covid-19. V neposlední řadě se zabývá psychickou odolností a dopady pandemie na duševní zdraví lidí. Výzkumná část zjišťuje osobnostní rysy: neuroticismus, extraverzi, otevřenost vůči zkušenosti, přívětivost, svědomitost a míru hardiness a ověřuje existenci vztahu mezi hardiness a jednotlivými osobnostními rysy u dobrovolníků pomáhajících během pandemie covid-19. Tato část obsahuje výsledky kvantitativního výzkumu, který byl realizován dotazníkovou metodou online formou. Výzkumný soubor se skládá ze 70 respondentů ve věku 17-69 let. Osobnostní rysy byly měřeny pomocí inventáře NEO-FFI a hardiness pomocí inventáře PVS. Výsledky výzkumu naznačují, že nejvýrazněji je u dobrovolníků zastoupena svědomitost a neuroticismus. Dále byla u výzkumného souboru zjištěna průměrná míra hardiness. Nebyl nalezen rozdíl v osobnostních rysech, ani míře hardiness při porovnání respondentů dle pohlaví a dle toho, zda studují. Mezi mírou hardiness a neuroticismem existuje statisticky významná negativní korelace.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is focused on the personality characteristics of volunteers who helped during the covid-19 pandemic. The aim of the thesis is to explore personality traits and the construct of psychological resilience, specifically hardiness, among volunteers helping during the covid-19 pandemic. The theoretical part introduces and connects the topics under investigation, addressing personality traits with an emphasis on the Big Five model. Furthermore, the theoretical part deals with volunteering in the context of the covid-19 pandemic, as well as psychological resilience and the impact of the pandemic on people's mental health. The research part investigates personality traits such as neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and the level of hardiness, and verifies the relationship between hardiness and individual personality traits among volunteers helping during the covid-19 pandemic. This section includes the results of a quantitative survey conducted online. Research sample consists of 70 respondents aged 17-69 years. Personality traits were measured using the NEO-FFI inventory, and hardiness was measured using the PVS inventory. The research findings showed that conscientiousness and neuroticism are the most strongly represented among the volunteers. Furthermore, an average level of hardiness was found in the research sample. No difference in personality traits or hardiness was found when comparing respondents by gender or student status. There was a statistically significant negative correlation between the level of hardiness and neuroticism.
