Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je posoudit vývoj kultury domorodých obyvatel Austrálie. Práce analyzuje televizní miniseriál Women of the Sun a zabývá se otázkou kolonialistického vlivu na domorodou kulturu. Pokouší se nastínit negativní dopad radikální evropské intervence na kulturní rysy vyobrazené v tomto seriálu. Nejprve se práce zabývá podstatou australské kultury a zmiňuje aspekty země, spiritualismu a 'kontaktní kultury', jako důležitá specifika, definující australskou sociální spletitost. Dále analyzuje dominantní aspekty každé epizody a zabývá se jejich změnou ovlivněnou přítomností kolonialistů. První epizoda popisuje dětství a svatbu, aby poukázala na odlišnost domorodého kmene. Dále zkoumá teritoriální vnímání domorodců a ilustruje podstatu jejich spiritualismu. Druhá epizoda se zaobírá prvotními dobyvatelskými zásahy a vyobrazuje dětství v misiích, misijní instituce a křesťanství, jako radikálně modifikované kulturní znaky, umožňující asimilační politiku Evropanů. Třetí epizoda popisuje bydlení, vzdělání a politiku, jako kontinuum dobyvatelské nadřazenosti. Poslední čtvrtá epizoda znázorňuje bydlení, dětství, vzdělání a povstaleckou politiku, jako současné formy domorodé vzpoury proti diskriminační politice, nerespektující australské domorodce. Analýzou těchto epizod práce vyvozuje vzdělání, rodinu, bydlení, náboženství a dětství, jako klíčové znaky seriálu, které byly radikálně pozměněny. Porovnáním těchto aspektů se dochází k závěru negativního vlivu kolonialismu na australskou kulturu.

Abstract:

The thesis aims to explore the cultural modification of aborigines. The thesis analyses the TV miniseries Women of the Sun to discuss the question of colonialist influence on aboriginal culture. It attempts to portray the negative consequences of European radical intervention on the cultural aspects in the series. Firstly, it investigates the basis of aboriginal culture. It comments on the specific cultural aspects such as land, spirituality and concept of 'contact culture' to depicts the cultural complexity of aborigines. Secondly, it analyses the predominant aspects of each episode and examines their modification influenced by invaders’ presence on the continent. The first episode comments on the childhood and marriage to portray the distinctiveness of aboriginal tribe. It further elaborates on the territorial perception to illustrate the origin of indigenous spirituality. The second episode comments on the initial invader’s intervention and regards the childhood in missionaries, missionary institution and Christianity as the radically modified aspects enabling the initial assimilatory policy. The third episode comments on housing, education and policy to portray the continuation of invader superiority. Finally, the fourth episode displays housing, childhood, education and resisting policy as the predominant aspects of the aboriginal rebellion against discriminatory policy disrespecting Aborigines. In conclusion, the thesis comes up with education, family, housing, religion and childhood as the essential aspect radically altered. Comparing their depicted modification, it concludes with the negative colonizer's effect on aboriginal culture.
